Once over on build

I am currently in the process of replacing my computer mainly due to wanting to build a computer.

 

A secondary goal would be to max out my fps so I can game at 100hz I tend to average 75-80 (3440X1440)

 

live in US. computer is mostly for gaming.

 

Currently:

Asus Maximus Hero XI

Intel 9700k

Samsung EVO 970 1tb and 250gig

EVGA 1000w P2

RTX 2080 (eventually)

GTX 1080 (currently)

16gb Galileo tridentz 4133 ram

Thermaltakw floe 360 cpu cooler

 

reusing all accessories and monitor

Acer X34 predator 

 

I may be missing something but I think that’s everything. Any parts that might make sense to swap out? Or maybe I am overlooking something?

that motherboard has a pretty bad VRM, so they'll get toasty. Go for gigabyte z390 aorus boards since they're better for overclocking and gigabyte did a great job on them this time around

If you want 4K above 60fps, you'll have to settle for lesser details unfortunately. 4K ultra on the 2080ti still barely keeps 60. Are your CPU and GPU overclocked?

for 1440p ultrawide the CPU is overkill as is, you not even the strongest GPU can get you CPU bottleneck.

 

2080 is just 1 tier faster than the 1080 which is rather bad for your wallet, get 2080Ti at least (maybe wait till the teased Turing Titan before you buy).

There's no thermal problem of the Maximus XI, it's just not as good as a Maximus board is expected to be. Besides he bought the whole thing already, so too late for buyers' remorse

it will be fine even with overclock. It's just a 9700k, similar performane and power draw to the 8700k

I'm just curious, what benefits does hyperthreading on the 8700k have over the 9700k?

Yes, less vulnerabilities that plagued the 8700k in recent months, or the need to delid.

well, why I'm asking questions.. Would it be worth it for me to get a 9600k? It would probably be harder to delid than the 8600k, or not even worth it to break the cpu. The only reason is that theres a $4 difference between both cpu's right now.

That is a solid gaming build but I question a 1000W PSU, it's insanely overkill.

$4 difference, of course the 9600k is the better deal. Factory delid service for $4 is a steal.

Going to try and answer these as I go, I had the PSU already so it may be overkill but it’s what I had available to me.

From what I watched/read about it is that the VRM issue really shouldn’t be a problem with my selected processor. I can still return it but it would be a mild hassle. Would it really be worth it? All I heard was ‘I wish this board had a better vrm because of the name’

 In that case fair enough! The EVGA P2 PSU's are some of the best quality on the market, I own an 850W and 750W P2.
