WHY UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10?

Ooh. Do tell. Registry hacks and such?

Get Classic Shell for the start menu and revive old Windows Search Bar.

Then you can kill cortana for good by renaming its folder on that window of 2 seconds between killing its process and windows restarting it.

You can revive old windows photo viewer through registry yes, you can also delete groove music and replace all the defaults for Media Player Classic again.

You can work on the icons bar to look like the former Win 7 style, icon tray too, remove/disable the notification center altogether.

I mean I don't recall all I did to my windows out of the top of the head any more but literally if you take a single day to google how to do the stuff you want to do in order to make it behave and look like Win 7 you can to all extend.

As I asked in the title, why should I upgrade to Windows 10? I've been running Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate since it came out. I haven't had any problems other than the occasional graphics driver messing up. I have a list of games that I like playing, mostly World of Warcarft. What functionality would I get from WIndows 10. I'm honestly just looking for feedback before I install. I don't wanna waste my time for an extra 4 fps. If there's a major topic of why to upgrade to 10. I don't have a PS4 or Xbox One. There's nothing on there that I can't play on my PC, or should I say, nothing on there that I care to play. This is a great community with awesome ideas. Maybe someone can convince me to upgrade. (Also, don't mention Cortana. I don't particularly like my computer talking back to me. lol.)

The number one reason would be - Windows 7 is at the End of its life and will soon stop getting updates.

The OP still has another year to go before he has to make the switch, now is the worst time to switch to Windows 10 until they get the October 2018 update situation fixed.

You can do whatever you want, if you don't want to upgrade to Win 10 then just don't.

But for what is worth it, it is perfectly possible to make Win 10 behave and look pretty much identical to 7 in every single way, so I don't personally see a point in keeping Win7 over just editing the Win10 to be like it.

If you're not planning to play the latest games that are exclusive to Windows 10 or play Directx12 games, just stay on Windows 7 for a while longer.

If you don't like the Windows 10 start menu then I recommend Start10 by Stardock. I don't personally use that one, but when I switched to Windows 8 the first app I purchased was Start8 and it made Windows 8 look and feel just like Windows 7 for me so I was able to use Windows 8 peacefully until 10 was released. You can pick Start10 up for $5 or you can take a look at the Humble Bundle to see if any of the other apps interest you to get a decent deal for only a few bucks more: https://www.humblebundle.com/software/stardock-software-bundle

Me personaly, im steering clear of W10 untill i have no choice but to upgrade.

To much work invovled to get W10 under control. A bunch of data collection to deactivate, UI mods, bloatware, and mods to regain control (to avoid the "nope u cant do that, nope u cant uninstall that,, nope u cant do that either" situations)

im sure W10 can be good, but its just so much easier to install W7, and just 'avoid' installing certian W7 updates that came out around the time of, and since, W10 released, so that you dont install data collection updates.

They do have a stripped down version of Windows 10 with no data collection or bloatware, I haven't tried it myself but my co-worker swears by it.

I don't understand why you re asking. If you want to disable everything and not use any new features from Windows 8/10 to make it looks like and feel like Windows 7, then why upgrade in the first place?

Because Windows 7 is 9 years old and it's support is fading away.

I went with Windows 9 (yes, it's a thing) which is supported until 2023.
