Second Build Gaming PC - Hybrid between Budget/Power

I'm looking to assemble another PC since my old rig is going on 8-9 years. My friend helped me pick out some specifications for what I think I want, but I haven't quite nailed it down. I am not the most tech savvy with this, however I am trying to research while also being careful not to over-assume I know what I am doing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

1. Budget & Location

Location: United States

Budget: 900$ - 2000$

I already have a HX850 PSU and a 1tb SSD.

 

2. Aim

Looking to run assorted games listed below:

-Rust on higher rendering

-Fallout 76 without stuttering

-VR Vive headset at higher rendering rates

-Generally future games w/o lowering the graphics/rendering all the way to low

 

As a secondary I am also looking to do some simple recording and editing, but I know this can be taxing to run games while recording.

3. Monitors

Quad ViewSonic VX2252MH 22 Inch 2ms 75Hz 1080p

4. Peripherals

Currently have a cherry keyboard and a razor mouse that I am happy with, but if you have any favorites you want to share I am always looking for something with good feel/looks!

5. Why are you upgrading?

  • Better running games with smoother gameplay as my dual Sapphire R9 290x GPU's can't run most new games without large stuttering (I know, old cards)

However, I might go with the cheaper EVGA GTX 1080 since I haven't heard great stuff from the 2080. I was also told since I am not looking to get 144hz monitors, it'd be wasted if I got the 2080.

Wouldnt consider an i7-8700k and RTX 2080 system as 'Budget' but that would be a good system

I would agree :P

The 'budgeted' part is knowing if I actually need to spend money on a RTX 2080. Maybe a better way of saying it is "money necessary to build what I am looking for".

it's a huge waste of money for a 75hz 1080p monitor, get an RTX 2070 and use the money for a 144hz monitor.

I've been told that a 144hz monitor is a must nowadays and I "won't go back once I try it". I'm thinking about going through with it and made a comparison between my two choices. If you could give me some feedback that'd be greatly appreciated!
