DROPPED RAM ON RUNNING GPU

I just dropped my ram on my running gpu and now my pc won't even turn on, is my gpu fried???

You'd have to have pretty dense ram to pierce through the fan shroud and heat sink to actually touch the GPU.

Wow thats something I have never heard before. Remove the GPU from the PCIe slot and try to boot first.

I had a gtx 1060 6gb and I dropped one of my ram sticks on the back of the gpu and it may have shorted it

my question is how? usually the system is off when you're installing / removing components .... so just how?

I see, I don't really know what to suggest here. Turn your PSU off, if you haven't already, re-install the GPU and see if it boots. Give it a bit of time but if nothing happens, it looks like you have a dead card :|

if there's no backplate on your gpu and that's where it landed, it's very possible that it's dead.

Why are you messing around with the components when the system is ON?!

Why was the RAM stick near the motherboard when it is still on??

It's like going to change the saw blade while the saw is still spinning...

 

If the metal contacts or heatsink made contact with some of the electrical components on the GPU, it might have caused a short-circuit.

In that situation, your GPU is probably damaged.
