Should I buy the Razer Blade 15?

Fryer

Hello!

I am going off to college next year and I am considering the Razer Blade 15 as my workstation/gaming rig. I was initially going to build a computer and buy a cheap laptop but now I am leaning toward the Razer as an all-in-one deal for my work and play. I am only going to be doing an average amount of gaming (Maybe games like R6, BO4, BF5) and doing my schoolwork on it (Robotics engineering major) so I am really torn. I live about an hour away from the college and will be living there, however, I am most likely going to come home a lot during the weekends and I would not like to move a full on desktop even for just Christmas and Thanksgiving etc.

Early draft of college PC ------

Thanks!

My advice would be a ballin' gaming PC at home, and a thin and light laptop at school.

Yeah but I don't have the funds for that and I'm going to want to game at school and not have a potato to do homework on.

How much do you want to spend overall?

I suggest not spending $300 on a motherboard considering  you are spending less on your CPU.

I'd say get the best gaming laptop in the thin category you can get. The conveneience gaming and practicality far outweights the benefits of a PC. especially if you have to move regularly. So don't get locked into Razer, there are better laptops out there.

ok im not sure what your budget is but lets just say 2000 since that is around what the razer blade 15 goes for.

if you want 2 systems i would recommend a nice beefy gaming rig and a cheap laptop like a 2 in 1 chromebook

and for a system

If you want a laptop however there are a few that I would recommend

thicc

omen X

this sager laptop

thin&light

alienware m15

razer blade 15

msi g65 stealth

aero 15x

asus zephyrus

Thanks! But if you were to choose a laptop which would you choose? I am just partial to Razer because I have used their products for a while now and I like the elegant design and build quality of the blade.

Consider maybe an ITX build in a case like the node 202?

Easy to transport and it takes up very little room

I do like the customization with the Dell I really wish Razer had less of a price gap between the base and the advanced. I would totally pay an extra 150 for that vapor chamber but not 500 more.

Yeah where did you hear that because I'm trying to find that out with alot of these laptops because that is just as important as what is in them if it's throttling then it's useless.

If you have the option to have either a desktop and a laptop, or just a laptop, always go with the two machines. There is too much trade off if you just go for one gaming laptop. It will be heavy, have poor battery life, and not be able to game as well compared to a desktop.

What I would recommend is this build:

Along with this build, you can afford something like the Lenovo Yoga 720

https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Touchscreen-Ultrabook-Computer-Fingerprint/dp/B07CWPX43H/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1542352646&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=lenovo+yoga+720&psc=1&smid=AVY78AJDCWNYB

or an HP x360 and choose to add an SSD.

https://www.amazon.com/Flagship-HP-Touchscreen-Quad-Core-Bluetooth/dp/B07K2HQ4NX/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1542353165&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=hp+pavilion+x360&psc=1

The reason for the two devices is because you don't want to have a heavy laptop that will die halfway through your school day. Keep the desktop in your dorm, and use that laptop for school work.

Or, if you want to be a good student, keep your gaming desktop at home and only visit it when you are on a weekend or break. This way you will have no distractions. Or you could keep it at your dorm and not worry about gaming when you are with your family, because it's family time.

  • 2 weeks later...

I should say to buy a refurbished blade like me because it’s a lot cheaper, I pay mine 1300€  With taxes and there is just that into the screen.

I think it’s a great plan. But do what you want!
