High Idles often result in higher ambient Temps

These seem pretty high temps for a 45W (if I remember correctly) cpu... Maybe the thermal paste under the heat spreader has dried up? Opinion on this?

hey guys, got a 3770k from retail edge. anyways, popped it in, tested it and seemed ok (on stock) but the second i started prime, temps reached in their 90's. i rechecked the tim and repasted, same temps (on an h80i). put in my trusty old 212 evo and went up to 104 instantly. i did a check/re pasted on the h80i 3 times and 2 times with the 212 evo. also, if i go to 4.5 voltage is 1.312. seems very very high. im guessing something is up with my cpu. do u guys agree? I am going to rma it so will take a couple weeks before i get it back and university restarted and wanted to game a but before the work load gets too high. does anyone know why the temps are rediculous?. im running a z77a-gd65 latest bios (a couple days ago). xfx (seasonic) 650w core edition. 6970 lightning. mushkin 2x4gb stiletto, intel 520 120gb boot ssd and 2x1tb western blacks. on and an old 32 gb corsair ssd for srt on the games/data/programs hard drive. thanks guys, and wish me luck

Just to help with the consistency of the temps. What program is everyone using to check the temps? That can make a difference in the results provided. IMO

mine is crazy hot, im waiting for my new cpu cooler

CPU : Intel Core i7 2600k @ stock.

intel stock cooler (sucks)

idle: around 45 C

Prime95 Blend : 97C

the cooler is properly placed, has no dust, and it has good thermal compound, but it cant keep up with the summer weather.

Yeh, coolers aren't linear things. Especially the stock coolers. Eventually when the CPU starts putting out enough heat, that cooler isn't going to be able to throw it all away fast enough. And if it's getting to 97C, I would never run prime on it again haha. 97 is far too close to the shut down temp for my liking.
