I recall to have read some posts on how AC could damags a PC due to condensation, but maybe I just misunderstood it? because I'm pretty sure many of you havd AC at home.

Anyways, better safe than sorry.

1.- Could AC damage a computer or not?

2.- How far away should the AC be from the computer in a closed room?

3.- Any general precautions?

Thank you

It’s not an issue as long as you’re not directly venting the AC air into the intake of the PC.

condensation happens when a component gets colder than the surrounding air. as a AC makes the surrounding air colder, and your PC gets hotter, there won't be any condensation in the PC.

the only condensation happens in the blast of air coming from the AC. as long as you don't specifically blast the AC into your rig point blank there won;t be an issue!

Air conditioning tends to dry out air a bit, though condensation will always be a factor if you do a wacky solution like piping in the A/C outflow direct into your PC, and you live in a humid climate and/or have a high dew point.

In a closed room it honestly doesn't matter how far away your A/C unit is if there's suitable airflow in the room via fans. As long as your room isn't boiling hot then your PC will benefit from it at least somewhat.

If your PC consumes a lot of power and you have a large A/C unit, consider plugging in your A/C unit into a different circuit in your room. Smaller gauge wiring like in older homes or very cheaply built homes can cause issues with high load on lines, from voltage droops to actual heat buildup and a fire risk in extreme situations. There is a strong voltage spike when the compressor turns on, which ramps up the power draw and voltage demands on the line, so it is something to take into account if you have a large unit.

As long as it's not centimeters away blowing the cold air into your PC there is no risk of condensation.
