Gigabyte RTX 2070 Windforce OC vs non OC

Goukira

Hi everyone !

I'm planning on buying a Geforce RTX 2070 from Gigabyte soon and I just want to ask what exactly the difference is between the OC and non OC version of the Windforce Model except from the base clock. Does the non OC version always run at the given 1640 mHz or does it also have a boost mode like the OC version when more power is needed? And is it possible to overclock the non OC version to the same base clock as the OC version ?? I'm curious because the non OC version is about 100€ cheaper than the OC version and I want to know if this pricejump is worth it or not.

Then there is the GAMING version of the Rtx 2070 which doesn't have any differences between the Windforce Non OC version which is also more expensive.

https://www.gigabyte.com/Comparison/Result/3?pids=6746,6748,6755  ( Comparison sheet from the official website )

Thanks in advance for your anwsers :D

cheers !

Wouldn't worry too much.

ALL Nvidia GPU's now Auto-overclock to just under their MAX.

Save your cash, All Nvidia GPU's of SAME models are all relatively close in performance..(T-Boost of 1800Mhz-1900Mhz without manual OC) due to GPU-Boost.

(only watercooled versions have a bigger advantage, or manually overclocked GPU's eG Coreclock after Turbo+100-200Mhz)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

non-OC version doesnt have factory overclock that OC version has. Not a concern at all since you could always overclock yourself (or with Nvidia's auto overclocking tool).

Gaming model and Windforce model only differ by the shroud design. From official pictures you can see that the Gaming has 2 tone colour while Windforce is just plain dark gray.

thanks guys ! i was just worried that the non OC version wouldn't auto overclock under heavy work load because there were no clock speeds given in the sheet.

ok so I will just buy the non OC version and overclock myself some time later. 100 € for a factory overclock is just too much in my opinion.

thanks again !

This time around nvidia have binned the chips. There are versions with and without A suffix in the name. It is believed the "better" overclocking ones will be the ones going into the more expensive cards, with the others going into the cheaper cards. They should still turbo and such regardless, but the more expensive one should have more headroom to manually OC.

I have ordered the cheaper windforce myself, should arrive tomorrow. Will see how it goes then.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Any updates 2-3 weeks later? I saw that Newegg had a “sale” (only $20) on the 2070 Windforce Card and I might jump on it. Selling my 1070 it won’t even cost that much to upgrade (but I don’t think the 1070 will have nearly as much value by the time next gen GPUs come around).

I haven't revisited overclocking it, but it did folding at home near continuously in November without problem.

Thanks. I was seriously debating it but the Newegg reviews show so many people had issues with the card. Not to mention I run games in Linux most of the time and I doubt support is any better there. I’ll give it a few more months and look for sales.
