It only gets used for mining if you install and run a mining app on your computer. It never does so by itself.

You didnt get his point. He was asking on how to make sure, that the second hand card he is going to buy, wasn't used to mine

You have no way of knowing. Just have to take the chance or know the seller well. 

 

Doesnt matter if it was mined on or not. Unless it’s the craptastic Msi cooled card.

Or a EVGA FTW card that requires a thermal pad. Tho this is really only a issue IF the card was manually OC'd, mine while should have the pad the temps run perfectly fine under full load.
