Are we nerds?

2CoolforCPU

So, im kinda just wondering about you guys opinion on this. So if a person Likes computers and video games, does that make him a nerd ( or a geek)? Because every time i start talking about computers and why they're so great and stuff, my friends always start calling me a nerd and such. Just me or do you guys copy? :D

They need to shut up. Just because you have a passion/hobbie, doesn't mean that you're a nerd.

nerd = someone who is good at school

geek = someone who is not really good at school (but can be) that likes geeky stuff such as tech

So yes, we are geeks. I do get called that. It's quite rare though.

EDIT: this is how the urban dictionary defines geek:

Geek

Not to be confused with Nerd. A geek does not have to be smart, a Geek is someone who is generaly not athletic, and enjoys Video Games; Comic Books; being on the internet, and etc.

nerd is a very negative word, and if your "friends" call you that and mean it, im not sure if they are really your friends...

also keep in mind: who determines the progression of technology and basically is essential for our everyday life today? exactly "nerds"

Be proud of being a nerd/geek. If your friends mean it in a negative way...find new friends that enjoy what you enjoy.

10 years ago "nerd" was negative, but today I don't feel it's bad to be called a nerd or call other people nerdy. How else would you describe our subculture?

It's like "gay" dosen't mean "homosexual" 90% of the time. Language is always changing

geek is a person who obsessive about a particular field and is very knowledgeable about the subject. These days geeks are usually connected to computers but i do believe you can be a geek about other things to.

But yes i consider myself a geek, not a nerd (which is a studious and reserved person).

I would rather be called a nerd than a geek (I am called nerd) because you need to be smart to be a nerd. You could be a retard and be a geek, you just have to like computers and such. You normally need to be smart to be a nerd.
