Why do you have that PSU in the first place?

It will power it, but you should consider replacing it.

It will power on with just the 8 pin. But consider replacing it.

Bad PSUs have a higher likelyhood of causing damage in case something goes wrong, they can shorten the life of whatever you're powering with it, and they are noisier compared to good PSUs.

I know but will it impact preformance and thermals if I only plug in the 8 pin connector???

No

Then why does it need another 4 pin if it will not affect anything even if it is optional

When did you buy that PSU? And why are you willing to use an over 200$ mobo with a crappy psu?

And no, you won't need the additional 4 pin. They implemented them to say "hehe, we have it bigger :D

Eh, if OP OC'd an 8700K really hard then having the extra pins can help.

I don't think the 8700K would work too well with the X470 board. Buildzoid mentioned that it would be fine with just the 8 pin on LN2. I think he'll be fine.

The point is that you have it as an option.
