Amazon and Best Buy team up to sell TVs

Amazon and Best Buy announced a deal where BB will now sell smart TVs with Amazon Fire software. This is a big deal, because this will severely hit the sales of Roku devices.

Amazon and Best Buy today announced a partnership that will see Best Buy selling smart TVs running Amazon's Fire TV software and Alexa in its physical stores. The deal will begin with "more than 11" models of Insignia and Toshiba TVs going on sale at Best Buys this summer.

The article explains Amazing struggle to sell TVs. Many consumers may fear of damaged during shipping, and many features like HDR are hard to sell online, and are better experienced in person.

Some things, like HDR, are not possible to experience at all without being physically present in most cases. So Amazon needs a popular retail outlet for its TVs to make progress in that market. Additionally, this deal goes to show that even with the expanding logistical network Amazon has obtained through acquisition, they are still reliant on brick and mortar stores for some services.

The announcement from both companies is so aggressively framed to play down past rivalries that it almost looks like the companies are protesting another narrative. Even the joint press release is written to emphasize mutual praise and admiration between the companies. "Amazon partners with Best Buy because of its industry-leading role in bringing the latest technology to millions of customers," says one header. "Best Buy chooses Amazon Fire TV Edition for its innovative user experience combined with the intelligence of Alexa," says the other.

 

 

 

Now the million dollar question:

What will this mean for Geek Squad and Amazon's tech service it's been running in Beta in NYC? Since Best Buy is selling these Amazon devices, and their Insignia devices will be sold on Amazon... Will BB sell Geek Squad services for Amazon products? Will Amazon sell their repair and warranty services in Insignia products?

 

It's weird to see this happen... But after seeing Team Blue and Team Red work together, maybe we shouldn't be too shocked?

I've gotten to experience HDR, by way of LG OLED HDR and some of Dell's offerings. It's different, but not by that much over a Vizio that has 16+ lighting zones. I can't even say it's better, just different.

Actually, the Insignia TV's have come a long way. The panels I think are made by Samsung.. They used to be made by Sharp, but not for a while. For someone that cannot afford an expensive TV, the Insignia brand is a pretty decent offering. MUCH better quality than Westinghouse garbage, and are working their way up. Not superior by any means, but not the worst either. Most of it is rebranding.

 

Despite it being a lower end brand and not giving a rats turd about it, the switch from Insignia being tied to Roku to Amazon Fire is a HUGE deal. That lower end/budget SMART TV (Using SMART in the loosest of terms) was a pretty good market for Roku to be able to compete. But with that switch, I really think this could be the beginning of actual competition with SMART TV technologies.

 

I love my Sony TV, but the app selection is very limiting. I don't have the ability to do anything outside of Amazon video.. No Amazon music app. Why? Because Sony has it tied to Google... If I had the ability to get a high end TV with Amazon Fire instead of Google Android, I would've taken it in a heartbeat. If cheaper products start having superior app availability, hopefully the larger brands will take notice....

4K OLED is all you need. HDR content outside of pictures just looks fake. Especially in games it looks like there is a lightning error

Smart TVs are watching us.

 

The problem with previous smart TVs was that there were too many brands, and a lot of those brands had different deals, and some of those brands didn't bother to update their firmware.

I intended to read into this and provide some great technical insight to this

Then I started reading

Amazon and Best But

Best BUT

Then I immediately (and carefully since i'm at work) searched google images for best but to find the perfect image response to put in a spoiler

I was vastly disappointed by google's results

Fixed. My Google Keyboard always changes my spelling. I'm not a fan.. for such a smart phone, it's a dumb keyboard..
