1440p ultrawide vs 4k monitors

Pittman90

So i just picked up a 4k 27in LG monitor and I have been enjoying it but ive been thinking about returning it for a 34in 1440p Ultrawide. Im realizing how difficult it is to drive games (obviously since i have a 1060) and how hard it is to find 4k content on anything other than youtube. I really cant decide now if the ultrawide is worth about a extra 200. I would like opinions from people that have owned or tried either, I feel like honestly in games I cant tell the difference of 4k, and I have tried games where I can crank the video settings all the way up and i dont know if its me or what but I am having trouble telling that its 4k. Same goes for youtube, anything other than the nature videos I have trouble telling that it is 4k (mind you without seeing it side by side) Any opinions would be appreciated.

Videos in 21:9 ratio is even more difficult to find :P

1440p ultrawide is only good if you want more desktop space. It's not like games will perform at the two resolutions any better than the other since it's a 1060 after all.

You can just run games at 1080p full screen for perfect scaling, or in a 1440p window

Youtube 4k is not a good measure of 4k

4k > 21:9 any day for the extra vertical pixels.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

i got an ultrawide for productivity, and it does that very well. i'm considering a different monitor for gaming some time in the future because ultrawide support is so limited and i dislike playing in windowed mode

I went 32 16:9 1440p for gaming and found it to be spot on.

I'm not an ultrawide fan for gaming personally.

which one was it? because it seems like 1440p can sometimes be just as expensive as 4k
