Intel said they're providing firmware updates for all CPUs made in the last 5 years. So does that mean everyone still using a 3770ks or 2600ks are fucked?

No one knows, we'll have to wait for the actual update.

In all likelihood, anyone using anything but an 8th gen CPU or some 6/7th gen CPUs is fucked.

Intel may provide a microcode update, but support for 4th gen motherboards is gone at this point, and most 1151v1 boards probably won't get a BIOS update.

(and if you're talking about OEM systems, don't even try. I'd be shocked if an OEM provided a BIOS update for one of their systems released yesterday)

They've provided a delivery estimate on the CPUs for the past 5 years, but they still plan on patching it on older CPUs too. Most OSes have already implemented patches for it.

Note that you need both the OS patch and the BIOS update in order to protect your PC

Hmmm... I'm sensing this whole shenanigans just to force everyone to upgrade their systems.

My office still use a bunch of core 2 pc, and its running well for office work.

If it ain't broken why upgrade?

yeah, and even the older ones that they are fixing, it seems like the older they are the harder hit they are with performance. Someone said its even noticeable browser stuttering on their laptop with the changes.

PC World, i mean Windows, doesn't have planned obsolescent other than newer software that demand more hardware power.

In pre windows 7 era, if you don't update your hardware, it will be very slow to run windows and office.

But after the advent of multiple cores, the software demand is stagnant, to the point where an old core 2 (with enough memory) still powering even a windows 10 pc.
