CPU's for lga 2011

So I have a motherboard with an lga 2011-3 socket on it. What would be a good cpu for gaming that I could use with it? (No need for high core count, but high core clock is preferable).  Budget is anything reasonable (you know, 1000$ i9's are not reasonable). Also, what does the 3 at the end of 2011-3 mean?

A Core i7-6800K should be fine, I'm not entirely sure what the -3 means either

LGA2011 is X99, right? I know @Damascus has been doing some X99 stuff, he may be able to help.

2011 v3 is X99 and equivalent xeons

2011 is X79

When the LGA 2011-V3 socket was first announced I believe the 3 stood for the 3rd version.

 

Why I never heard of the 2nd version ever existing I don't know.

2011-3 I think means that it's the third generation as the first two generations were on the original 2011 socket. It differentiates the older Sandy and Ivy E DDR3 platform from the Haswell and Broadwell E DDR4 platform.

 

That said, the 6800K with a nice overclock would probably be the "cheapest" solution.

2011-3 means the the second revision (X99), the original 2011 was on X79.
