Recommended size for a 4K monitor?

felisimo

Hey guys,

I wanna buy a 4k monitor. I have 2 questions:

1. What is the recommended size for such a resolution and why? (an explanation for a newbie would be appreciated :) ) I have read that 27-28" is the best,

but will 32" be good as well or will it look worse? I will use it 50-50 casual and gaming.

2. Do you have a recommendation for such a monitor?

27-28 is pretty bad actually. I had a 28" 4K monitor and for non-gaming I had to bump it up so it was essentially 1440p anyway.

If you're looking at that size range then I would go for a 1440p 120-144Hz monitor instead.

4K is good for 32" though, anything in your budget with good reviews should be fine :)

What do you mean to bump it up? And why only for non-gaming?

Do you have a 32" monitor now and feel it's better? I insist on 4k since I feel it is becoming more and more relevant.

Sorry, I had to increase the scaling for the desktop and all the apps which is hit or miss as to how well it will really scale.

At 27-28" font and everything is way too small for comfortable viewing experiences even a couple feet away.

I will only get 4K if the monitor size is 43" and above unless Windows fix the scaling issue. Without scaling, 4K is too small in 100% scaling for monitor size 32" and below.

4K is nonsense for PC, it is great for TV only.

Everything is way too small unless your monitor size is 43" and above and such screen size a bit too big to use as a PC monitor.

I used to have a 28 inch PB287Q. It was a good experience other than the shitty panel.

Now I am using a 24inch MG24UQ and I absolutely love it.

Personally!!! I felt that 28" is too big for a regular monitor when gaming and I was looking for something smaller. When I found a great deal on the MG24UQ  (300 instead of 500) I just went ahead and bought it. I love the sharpness. It is retina-like. Scaling is an issue sometimes, but it has gotten sooooooo much better.

So, what I am trying to say is that it very much comes down to preference.  Even at 24", 4k can be great and very enjoyable.

Something that might not be super important for you is that portability is crap with a 27" or 28". I often take my pc to friends...
