Replacing GPU cooler with single 120mm fan

My Asus Dual GTX 1070 has always been loud and hot and replacing thermal paste didn't help. The only way to make this GPU quiet was underclocking and undervolting.

 

Now I had an idea to replace the stock cooler with case fan. I used a Nanoxia 120mm 1100 RPM fan and attached it with zipties. It didn't cover the whole heatsink so I didn't expect much.

 

I have to say that I'm amazed about results. Instead of sounding like a vacuum cleaner my 1070 is now almost silent and temperatures are also significantly lower. With stock fans I had 77C and 1700RPM in The Witcher 3 and now 71C and 1100RPM. It looks little ugly but it doesn't matter since my PC is very quiet now.

Tell me about it, I wanted to replace my stock cooler on the i7 6700 but I'm  so lazy to... it annoys its bloody noisiness every time I start gaming though.

I didn't even bother to use stock cooler with my CPU. With this SilentiumPC cooler CPU temperatures won't go over 50C even under 100% load and it's very quiet. Since I have a window on my side panel tower cooler also looks much better than stock cooler.

Temperatures wise it hasn't been an issue, it sits no higher than 68C on full load so there's no throttling at all but yeah it's noise is so bad...

But I'm too lazy to throw a 212 Evo on it.... besides my rig on its temporary state is quite messy, I hate my power supply cable madness.. while I totally wanted to already make things better I think I'll keep waiting for Ice Lake to change plenty of stuff at once, get a modular PSU and go unlocked processor this time... the stock cooler is sufficient until then but damn I wish Intel didn't make them so crappy.
