Hello dear people.

I got a broken GPu and I got the money back. It's a gtx 1060 6gb from ASUS.

Is it worth spending an extra 60usd/50eur for a ROG Strix card insted of the regular ASUS card?

the Strix has a faster clock speed both memory and engine, its color black or white, and sizes are longer and wider. The Strix needs a 1 8pin and the dual fan will need 1 6pin.

Probably not really worht it. Also unless you have a high refresh rate G-sync monitor have you considered the RX580 8GB?

The size is not a problem. But are you telling me that from the fan I need to connect a wire to the mobo?

Go with the normal Asus card, non-Strix.

The Strix will need a single 8 pin PCIe power connector while the regular, Dual Fan, will only need a single 6 pin

I don't own a g-sync monitor but i just now relised it has freesync

I would get the higher clocked version if I was you. Its the only bottleneck in my system with a 1070 in a laptop.

well It's only 200mhz in difference. Is it that big of a deal? I could overclock it.

Yeah so if you have a Free-sync monitor I would get the RX580 8GB, then you can use that feature. At least here in Canada they now finally have come down in price and cost the same as the 1060 6Gb, and they compete directly with them. Recently the RX580 is even starting to outperform as game optimization improves for Radeon cards. Check out this vid by Hardware Unboxed, it's a great comparison.

Okey I hope you know your GPU:s cuz I'm kinda a newbie.

The AMD card has 8gb while the GTX card has 6gb. But the AMD card only has around 1300mhz in clock speed while the GTX card has 8000mhz. HElp

Just watch the vid, they are different cards so clock speeds are not as relevant as they are when comparing one Nvidia card to another.

The RX580 is better in more games than the 1060. I think you are understanding how they work incorrectly. AMD and Nvidia cards are not made the same therefor saying that a Nvidia card with higher memory frequency is a better graphics card is an unfounded claim. Clock speeds do not matter when comparing the two directly. The best way to compare them is to put them head to head in games like Hardware Unboxed did, and as we can see the RX580 did better.

If you have a Free-sync monitor it makes more sense, take advantage of the performance you already own. And this is coming from a guy who exclusively owns Nvidia cards right now. I just think for the price of the 1060 the RX580 is now the better choice since it is finally coming down in price to compete with the 1060. Like for most titles they are within a few percent of each other but to me the RX580 is the better buy. The only reason I personally would buy a 1060 (and I did) is because I already own an expensive 144Hz G-sync monitor. If I did not own that monitor I would have bought a 580.
