What happens to my CPU Cooler?

Lawrence13

I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212X and a MSI Gaming PLUS B350 with my Ryzen 1600X and I've been trying to make my pc a little bit more silent using the Command center app in order to set the fan running at higher temps but when in idle or watching media around 50º it randomly increases the spinning velocity and decreases it and I don't know why is it happening. Any ideas how could I fix it?

I'm going to guess one of the following:

  • Overzealous detection system, where it catches one of the cores shooting up to say 70C for a sample period and goes "RAMP EVERYTHING UP" before realizing it's not really that hot on the next sample period.
  • The "curve" is really a step function.
  • There's no real hysteresis with the fan control software.
  • If this is a Windows tool, it may be fighting with BIOS.

Some of those are by design, so you can't fix them. But the last one you could at least test by not using the Windows tool and seeing if setting things up in BIOS works.

Check Command Center for a warning temp. If it's low like at 50c, it will max the fans regardless of curve. Set the warning to 92c (if there is one).

Check in BIOS if you have option to use PWM instead of DC.
