RX Vega 56, buy now or wait for rebrand? o3o

I would guess that it might be rebranded as RX 690(64) and RX 680(56) sometime in the future so my question is if prices remain bad should I and anyone else who question this wait?

 

This might also be a option who knows what AMD plans. (we never know right?)

Edit: re-branded Vega will also have better custom coolers since any bugs or issues will be found now with this generation...

Well I know but we all remember the RX 480 from Gigabyte right? & The R9 290 from ASUS which both was total failures so even then we do not know so personally why not wait for re-brand? Maybe the prices will be even better to?

Don't wait for rebrand or aftermarket cards. You'll have no chance at getting them because miners will eat them up like a bunch of starved dogs. Get the reference edition (best VRM setup for any card save the LN2 special editions from like Galax or something), then either undervolt on the stock cooler or slap a water block on it from EK and go to town on the thing.

A rebrand will be kind of late. It sure will be more efficient probably on lower node (7nm hopefully), but at this point you should wait for NAVI or Volta. Wait for aftermarket cooled card and buy one if you are not concerned about power.

Agreed, IMO wait till the aftermarket options come out and pick the one that suits your style, performance and acoustic needs the best.

 

However, the VEGA reference board is still a very good board with a small cooler that most would label inadequate to deliver maximum performance that is both cool and quiet.

As gamers nexus has pointed out based upon the Size of the silicon chip, the cost of the HBM2, the interposer and the quality of the board components(such as vrm) AMD could very well be losing money or might be breaking even on sale cost vs parts cost on the 56 model.

It probably won't be that much cheaper. If you're looking for that level of performance for less you're best off waiting for Navi, it'll be sooner and the 1160 will probably be around $250 and perform like a 1070.

We MIGHT see Navi by late 2018 but I would personally think 2019 based upon how late Vega is to the party. So... don't hold your breath for Navi.

7nm in the last 6months of 2018 would IMO put Navi in early 2019.

VRAM prices are increasing are you sure it will not cost 350$? o3o

That may be temporary. Volta isn't due to until 2018. We probably have a good 8 months before that comes out. That gives us plenty of time to see VRAM prices drop.

But it will be old tech when rebrands come out, and you might as well get used stuff. If you don't have the money now, either save up or buy used 900 series cards from Nvidia. If you want Vega specifically then wait till 2 weeks or more after custom cards come out. Prices should be more stable then.

Miners don't like Vega that much. It isn't that much faster than Pascal or Polaris, but a lot more power hungry.

Eh, HBM2 wouldn't be the limiting factor for Navi as HBM2 is already in mass production and will only get better and better yeilds as time goes on, the 7nm production node would be the determining factor and possibly AMD having limited resources for chip design compared to Nvidia.

 

I would personally love to see what the Intel 14nm++ process could to the current crop of GPU's as Intels 14nm process is much better than anyone else's and equal or better to others new "10nm" processes.

What's a point of HBM2 memory when actual AMD GPU is slower ? HBM costs significantly more but does almost nothing to overall GPU horsepower.

It comes down to power consumption. If AMD were to put regular GDDR5(X) on Vega they'd have to add another 40-50W of TDP to the card.

I'm kinda disappointed where Vega 56 are going right now.  Performance is not mind-blowing and with the recent news that it will probably not sell for 399 usd.

 

So my R9 390 might need to wait until the RX 680 comes out or just sell my gpu and my monitor and jump to the other side.   However, the freesync though... its really a hard time to buy stuff

I'm pretty sure Vega 56 will be the same.  They increased the price for Vega 64 by 100USD right after all the Youtube reviews (which can't be edited obviously) were finished.  A 1070 is pretty much identical in gaming (sometimes higher, sometimes lower), but doesn't draw nearly as much power.  That means you can get a cheaper PSU, and if you live in a country with high power costs, it will end up saving you lots of money over time.

Power cost is no issue in Norway we have water power, but for performance I feel 500+ for a 1070 or Vega 56 is to much might as well wait for Vega re-brand edition next year... :c

If you can get the 56 sure, but I still feel it's not worth that much. I would skip Vega and rather pick up the 1070 or the 1080. Upgrading right now sucks because you are forced to get a year old architecture(Volta won't be coming anytime soon) and the new one from AMD is not as good as we would expect it to be.
