Go for Ryzen or stay with FX?

Hi there,

my current setup should be somewhere viewable down below. The gpu is a sapphire R7 260x, could sadly already considered to be "ancient". So my decision to buy a new gpu already stands. I personally dont need a gtx 1080, any equivalent or anything even better. Im aiming for an gtx1070 or an rx vega 56. I rwally would like tosupport amd with a purchase of a vega gpu, but that only seems viable if i buy it in one of the bundles amd is selling with a new ryzen cpu, because a standalone option for an rx vega is just not viable at the moment with all the hype and skyhigh prices resulting from the mining power of vega. Why do i want to support amd? most of use became crybabys over the kast 10 years or so that there is no competition to intel on the cpu market and nvidia on the gpu market. on the cpu side, amd more or less took a run through the door and made a good reentrancce. Not so much on th gpu side so that why i want to support amd if their pricing is good. My question: do you think its smart to buy a bundle and go with a new ryzen cpu and mobo ( YASSS! finally sata6gb ) or stay with my fx 6300, oc the hell out of that thing and go with a gtx 1070? because my fx never really let me down and my cooling is good so there is some room for a good oc.

Hope someone can help me. Thx.

Get a Ryzen 5 1600 with a B350 motherboard. FX will be a huge bottleneck with the 1070

In all seriousness what he said is correct.  The 1600 is a solid chip, and the FX won't keep up with a 1070.

Ya, I would go 1600 with the 1070.  That's an extremely solid system that will last quite a few years.  And you can OC the 1600 to be a beast too.

Vega 56 is faster than the 1070 in most games when benchmarked (although not by much), but honestly both will do you fine so just get the one you can find the cheapest :)

The Vega 56 has better performance than a 1070 ( slightly but still better ) and is a bit cheaper I think ?

So I woukld get the VEGA 56 instead of a 1070

There's a LOT of used 1070s currently out in the market since Vega came out. You could get a 1070 for under $400 right now on eBay, even some being sold in Europe. 1070s are undoubtedly cheaper if you're willing to chance used.

If you want to get Vega 56, don't bother with a reference design card. Wait a few months for the AIB cards to come out.

The GTX 1070 will likely perform better, if you get a higher end one.

I wouldn't get a bundle. They're not a great deal. You have to get an 1800x and a very high end motherboard.

Ryzen 5/1070 as has been suggested by many is an awesome combo. I'd also consider waiting if you want to see how Vega performs once the board partners get to play around with it.

Not a reference card...they're so not worth it.

I upgraded for FX 6350 to Ryzen 1700x. No regrets. I love it much better. Faster, more stable. I am very happy with it.

R5 is great if you don't need 8 cores. I do development, game design, rendering, etc. So I got more cores for productivity. If you don't need it, R5 is good.

yeah i alwys wondered how everyone said that the fx is just a cooking plate in disguise and my fx6300 is going around 15 °C in idle. i have to say, if i only open a folder or programms like firefox, it directly jumps up to max 30°C and then down right back. if i go for a normal working load, like gaming, it is somewhere around 40 degrees, i dont remember exactly. on a stress test it goes up to 70, 75 degrees celcius. Maybe my cooler has a production malfunction in a positive sense because it only is 20 bucks or less:

Have you checked your temperatures with another program? Maybe the program just displays the wrong temperature. Because opening a folder shouldn't double your temperature.

coretemp gives me the same result at idle and shows the described temperature "behavior"

msiafterburner the same, went up to 35 degrees playing dota2

maybe the sella is just a hidden treasure, i would have kept using it anyway, its just very good as it seems

cpuz also the same, just tested it. not sure you see msiafterburner as reliable for cpu temps, i just used it because all the sensors in afterburner come with diagramms and thats practical

forgot to mention, the cpu isnt overclocked at this moment

If you use Autodesk or something similar, you'll appreciate the Ryzen.

You should get the Vega/Ryzen bundle.  It is a good deal, Vega 56 is awesome, plus free games!  The hardest part will be finding one in stock!
