No Man's Sky Question :)

mattdmg

I've been keeping an eye on this game and I'm curious about it and I didn't get it at launch or anything and I don't really know what made it bad besides lying. I think the game was just updated, it's on sale, some reviews put in a good word, and there is a lot of people playing it right now (14,000). So, is this game worth it now?

If this game isn't worth it, what would they have to add to make it better?

It wasn't just lying, it was also missing a lot of things that were promised (I guess that is lying but it's an issue on its own as well), and it also had pretty bad performance problems.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I love no man sky and have played since launch and the updates since launch made the game a hell a lot better.  However, it is a grindy type of game which isnt everybody's cup of tea.  If youve ever enjoyed minecraft or other survival games then you might like it.

If I were you id watch some streams or maybe youtube videos on the content of the update to see if your interested.

Exploration is what always keeps me coming back so if you like the idea of being able to literally go anywhere in the game its a pretty good buy at the sale prices.

NMS is nothing like Minecraft, that's an insult to Minecraft lol.

It's mileswide, inches deep. Once you boil down the mechanics of the gameplay it's very, very basic.

It's ok. I played 17 hours of it (apparently, didn't seem like that long) and then uninstalled it. I haven't tried it yet with any of the patches though so I might start over. It is, as others have said, super basic. Mine minerals. Explore very small bases. Repeat. "Combat" was pathetic.

i heard an interesting opinion on no man's sky today:

the developers had an amazing idea for a game, and marketing was like "nah, you make it like this instead".

and you know what happens when marketing gets involved with engineering :P

I think you mean Publisher, not Marketing. But yeah, I imagine that's pretty accurate. Sony had a deadline to meet, Sony pushed the game out.

I'm not "hating", and I have looked into it. Just not with my money, because the game is incredibly grindy and lacks any depth or immersion once you get passed the first 2-3 hours and realise that this is all you're going to be doing.

since the updates theres definitely more than 2-3 hours or content.  Much has changed with the game which is why I believe you did not look into it well enough.  Not to mention passing that kind of judgment on a game you havnt even played is kind of ridiculous.  I dont think the original post was looking for the opinions of people who have never played it.

I have it and was majorly pissed about all the lying that went on. Lots of people say it' sour own fault because we overhyped it. But frankly I was excited about what was shown in trailers and said in interviews...which turned out to be lies.
I missed my windows to refund it too so I've been waiting for it to become a game worth playing so I can get my money's worth out of it.
The last two updates seemed pretty cool though it's not enough to pull me back in to it yet. It's on sale for £16 which at that price, I would say yeah, it's worth it for what the game is now.
Though I'll never forget the lies.
