Problem with Nikon 18-105 VR on D3300

Hey guys,

so I have a nikon d3300 with a 18-105mm lens (came in a kit). I have on 50% of my photos doubled edges like in the image below when the vr is turned on, and I already sent it in for warranty repair twice, but apparently they didn't fix the issue. They said the adjusted the VR last time. If the VR is turned of, these doubled edges disappear and I have crips and sharp images. This malfunction doesn't appear in macro, but for example when making a photo of a tree, church, building whatever. Does anybody have an idea if it's normal for this kind of lens? Or just annoy the people at the store and let them repair again?

This fence is probably around 15m away from my standpoint.

can't show you the full photo because I don't want to violate someones privacy as there are quite a few people on the rest of the picture and they are quite recognizable.

Thanks for helping out  :)

Was the camera placed on a tripod? Just to make sure because most Image Stabilizer dont work properly on tripods.

What focal length and SS is that at?

The tripod thing could be it, but I assume you aren't using one.

focal length was 45mm, f8 at 1/250s, iso was set at 100. But it doesn't matter really as it appears in basically every focal length and speeds.

It probably is just the VR system being too stupid to work properly. Maybe try it on a different body just in case. But its probably the VR system not counteracting the motion correctly resulting in even more shake and more blur.

yeah that was my guess.

in a week or two i have the opportunity to test the lens on a different body and the body on the same lens from another person. Guess I'll have to await these tests.

in case you are still interested and for anybody else out there who finds this thread:

seems like the controller for the VR in the body itself causes this, because I was finally able to test another 18-105 on my body and they both showed the issue. When I put both of them on another Nikon body, the doubled edges were gone.
