Spilled soda on keyboard and random keys keep typing

geek on fleek

I spilled soda on my Razer Blackwidow Chroma and now it just randomly starts to type 9's and 0's, mainly only numbers, anyone know a possible fix? I know it was just a stupid mistake.

How long ago did you spill this soda? Sounds like the sedimentation created a short across a switch; a bit of cleaning (rub with water and dry thoroughly) should fix that.

I would take it apart as much as you can, then clean up everything with some isopropyl alcohol, then hope nothing got fried assuming you have plugged it back in.

Hey, I did the exact same thing last year and I am using that same keyboard today without any problems.  My fix was to shut the machine down, unplug the keyboard from the machine then flip the keyboard over and remove all screws enabling me to remove the top cover to the keyboard.

After removing the top cover, I used a bottle of denatured alcohol and cleaned the keyboard with a small paint brush using the alcohol as the paint.  After "painting" the keyboard, I then "rinsed" it over the bathtub with the denatured alcohol making sure that I got all the nooks and crannies flushed out real good.

Denatured alcohol dries pretty quick so after the flushing, made sure it was all dry and then put it back together.  Made sure it was completely dry using the wife's hair drier and then plugged it back in to the pooter.  Turned on the pooter, and everything ran like it should without any problems.  Problem fixed.

Now, all I can say is this solution worked for me but I cannot guarantee that it will work for you so proceed at your own risk.  Good Luck.

Alcohol is your friend here.

Pour some whiskey for yourself and start disassembly. Afterwards, grab isopropyl and submerge the keyboard for a second and clean with a microfiber towel as much as you can until a final squirting of alcohol removes the rest.
