GPU Pricing is Officially Broken

So, doing as I normally do I was browsing Amazon for some tech stuff to buy and I decided that I kinda want a GPU upgrade, I currently have a 1050Ti that I got for about €130, At the time I bought it I seen the RX470 8GB for about 50-60 more than the 1050Ti. So today I'm browsing Amazon.co.uk and see a Sapphire Nitro RX470 8GB for the price of a high end GTX 1070... What is this?? I knew Bitcoin mining is the cause for some of the RX500 cards going up in price but really??

wtf..PNG

Unlikely. back in the day prices were above MSRP even for second hand cards. People will be looking to buy these cards for mining rigs even after Vega's release

There's no such "limit". It's happened with the HD 7000 and R9 200 series, and it's happening again with the RX 400/500 series.

That's what I mean, a drop in the RX line's price after vega may happen after some time to boost their lower end along with Vega, so people will snap up the cheaper cards for mining rigs, screwing over normal buyers, then messing with the used market down the road by selling heavily used and possibly damaged mining cards, it'll be the HD7000 Series all over again

Luckily I was going to upgrade my old pc so no worries, getting used GTX 970.

Even if I touch new heights (upgrade totally to new socket) GTX 1070 is still fine

Holy, lol. I wonder what happened. Newegg is completely sold out of every single 470, 480, 570, and 580.

The prices are high because the 500 series cards just dropped and are out of stock so the 3ed party distributors are jacking the prices skyhigh

Yeah, the 470's are at the price of 580's and above at this point which makes no sense to me whatsoever

Now makes me think if I should stock up on some RX cards since they are still about €200-€280 in my country and then resell them.

Because AMD cards are great for mining crypto currency as they offer the most mega hashes per second at low power.

And the fact that generally AMD cards are cheaper to buy new than NVidia cards, for example, you used to be able to get an RX480 (highest end RX card before the 580) for a little cheaper than the 1060 to get close in performance to it with an 8GB VRAM buffer, Crossfire 2 480's and you get enough power to match a GTX 1080 FE. Now think of a Mining rig with like 8 480 cards in it and you see the kind of power we have going on at a price that's much cheaper than doing the same with NVidia cards
