New HDD for ~100$USD

Demonwolf13

So far I've only ever gotten around ~1 year of life on any hard drive I've had before they experienced massive slow downs or death. The only reason that number is above a year is my current drive has lived for about 2.5. That life is about to come to an end though as I hear(its gone quite now of course) loud sounds coming from the front of my PC that isn't related to fans. I'd really like to increase the time between mourning the loss of another drive. My usage is probably a bit long because I turn my PC on when I get home and leave it on until I sleep, playing games (I have shadowplay on), watching videos, drawing, or staring blankly at forums. I already have all the stuff I want backed up off the drive.

Even in the best situation I probably need a new drive soon. I don't mind spending over 100$ but I'm trying to limit myself to that much. I'm looking for a long living drive over much else.

For buying the drive, what retailers and partners from those retailers do you suggest? One that i was looking at on Newegg really is what made me make this post. I see like 6 1 star DOA reviews out of 36 and 30 of them are 1 line 5 stars and I'm not sure if I can trust the seller.

And for future drive checking and cloning. What programs do you guys suggest. I wan't to make sure my drive has 0 hours on it when I first get it.

I don't usually read the reviews on stores since negatives are usually more plentiful.

CrystalDiskInfo or Aida64 can show you SMART data.

If you're cloning then no wonder you're experiencing massive slow downs.

Do a clean install every time you get a new OS drive.

Western Digital seems to be your best bet, most people seem to have no issues with them. Can't vouch personally.

I have a Seagate drive as my primary, and it's worked perfectly for 5 years, but I have heard from other people that some Seagate drives are bad. I think you just need to be careful when buying Seagate, check the reviews and such, just in case.

This would be my first clone and its of a non OS drive. As well as my first replacement drive on this computer.
My old computer that I don't use is on a drive that fails to boot 60% of the time and only gets 30mb/s read write.

All of the drives lives have been from fresh installs of windows.

Crystaldiskinfo. Thank you, That'll go into my list of useful programs.

That's good.

If you want even better reliability then you could get a 250GB SSD for that price, although it might not be enough room for you, idk.
