1070 worth it for 2560x1080 60fps gaming?

NSDUO

Would a r5 1400 and a 1070 be worth it for 2560x1080 gaming at 60 fps? Or would a r5 1400+rx580 be better value?

1070 still gonna out perform that 580, the 580 is just a overclocked 480. if your gaming at anything above 1080p, I think a 1070 is going to be a much better investment.

Here's the thing. If I go 1070, I can't use freesync. And it'll be more expensive which means less games I can buy.

I think the 580 is enough shading power for that res. And you get more games like you said.

580 should be enough as long as you don't expect to use ultra settings on AAA titles.

but an R5 1400 sucks compared to intel's lineup unless you need to do video editing or something on a budget. Why not an i5 7500.

I don't like Intel as a company. If I really budget (like getting rid of a ssd and going full hdd) I can get like a 1600 or if I just loan $20 from my parents I can go 1500x. And the 580 can't do ultra at 2560x1440 on aaa games?

As far as monitors? I got mine for under $500 on sale and its IPS Gysnc and 165hz. If your gaming at 2k you going to have to spend a little more anyways, better investment I feel.

Well, it depends. Ghost recon wildlands is under 60 fps at ultra on my pc other games will be more, some less. and I'm playing at 1080p

Hmm. 1070 is a whole $160 more than the 580. I lose out on freesync, better cooling (fans included in the case I want are shit), and more games. If I go 1070, I gain better performance that's probably overkill and vega is coming so 1070 would be crushed by vega.

This one of the things that drives me bananas. NVidea already makes a huge profit on their cards (not the stores that sell them, but NVidea themselves), but they sell their G-sync licensing for an absurd amount of money, which forces the companies selling displays to price the monitors much higher; it's like a double slap in the face.

I think he'll be fine at Ultra wide 1080p. Sure, some games will dip, some will be far higher. Considering budget, unless he can afford to swap out for a G-sync display, I'd take a 580 UWHD with Freesync over a 1070 on a non G-sync monitor.

even the 1070 can't do ultra on 1440p on all AAA games.

But I thought you were going for 1080p ultrawide.

if you're going for 1080p ultrawide (2560 x 1080), the 580 is good enough for 60FPS on high/ultra settings on almost all AAA games, but unoptimized games won't run well.

hell, even my 1070, overclocked, can't run Tom Clancy: Ghost Recon at 60FPS at 1080p with max settings.

well vega might be better, have to wait and see. My point was more that 60 fps at ultra in AAA games may be asking a bit much, but a 580 paired with a freesync monitor will probably provide a better overall experience since it won't be waiting for frames to be delivered

I'd say a 1070 is a pretty big overkill for 2560X1080 60fps gaming, I have a 1070 with 2560X1440 and get 90 FPS minimum on Ultra Settings. 2560X1080 is 2.76million pixels, 1920X1080 is 2.07million pixels,  2560X1440 is 3.69million pixels. So while ultrawide 1080 is more pixels than regular 1080p its the same amount less than 1440p so while it is more taxing you can't use what FPS you'd get with 1440p to determine what FPS you'd get on 1080 ultrawide. So if you were to look at the FPS a GPU gives for both 1080p and 1440p and took the number in the middle then that should be your FPS, granted FPS isn't proportional to pixel count but it should give you a rough idea.

CPU: I5-6600k | MOBO: MSI Z170-A XPOWER Gaming Titanium Edition | Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO |RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB DDR4 2800 | GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition | Case: MasterCase Pro 5 | Storage: SAMSUNG 850 EVO 500GB, WD Blue 1 TB 7200rpm | PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 | Display: Acer Predator XB271HU 1440p 144hz | Keyboard:Logitech G910 Orion Spark | Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum | Headset: Logitech Artemis G933 | PcPP: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/sfgGjc

1070 and 1080p ultrawide owner.

2560x1080 I can run essentially any game 60fps Ultra besides GTAV, which frame-drops heavy for me (90fps to mid 50s)

ask me anything

idk

Already have the parts in mind

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

1070 would mean no fans (stuck with the loud included ones), no phone stand (don't really care about that), no freesync, and no optical drive (don't care about that either). The wifi card and optical drive are 0 because my friend is giving me them for my birthday. By getting rid of the optical drive he'll just give me $10

Ok thanks. Do u think for most games, the 1070 is overkill? The monitor I want only has a 60hz refresh so anything above is overkill for now. But in the future games will be more demanding so extra power now would translate into better performance down the line. If u were in my situation, would u pay the extra $160 for the 1070 over the rx580? Also getting rid of an amd card, I lose out on freesync as the monitor I want supports it.

I absolutely love my card, and it runs everything really well at ultrawide PROVIDED you have a good processor to keep those framerates smooth as 1080p Ultrawide is still slightly CPU-dependent like 1080p.

You can overclock them to 75hz quite easily, I've been running my 25UM57 at 75Hz since I got the thing out of the box.

The only game that I've tried that hasn't run at a stable 60fps on my 1070 is Forza Horizon 3, which I think isn't the card, but me running out of memory (I have 8GB and an older i5).

It's overkill imho, but hey - worse comes to worse you return the 1070 and get a 580 4GB instead.

idk
