1070 worth it for 2560x1080 60fps gaming?

I absolutely love my card, and it runs everything really well at ultrawide PROVIDED you have a good processor to keep those framerates smooth as 1080p Ultrawide is still slightly CPU-dependent like 1080p.

You can overclock them to 75hz quite easily, I've been running my 25UM57 at 75Hz since I got the thing out of the box.

The only game that I've tried that hasn't run at a stable 60fps on my 1070 is Forza Horizon 3, which I think isn't the card, but me running out of memory (I have 8GB and an older i5).

It's overkill imho, but hey - worse comes to worse you return the 1070 and get a 580 4GB instead.

Uugghh. Don't tell him to get a 4 gig. He will be kicking himself in less than a year.

Unlike 2GB > 4GB, 4GB > 8GB isn't that much of a step up.

Remember, GTX 970 is the most common video card according to the Steam hardware survey, and that has 3.5Gb.

idk

580 should be enough as long as you don't expect to use ultra settings on AAA titles.

but an R5 1400 sucks compared to intel's lineup unless you need to do video editing or something on a budget. Why not an i5 7500.

atleast get an 1500x an oc it

oc 1600 for 20 more than 1500x and oc it

(i know more than 4cores 8 threads wont help but they might in the future) and its 20 more than 1500x

I know, but the 4 gig use is pretty common now. It's why the rx480 beats the 3Gb 1060 in 90% of games, where-as in the 1060 6 Gb against a stock rx480 they just switch off over which card is better based on who released the newest drivers for the most part.

1070 is the best for 1080p wide imo, will last you a couple more years.

Why not get R5-1600 btw? Price different is huge?

They do make a difference in most games. About 10 fps on a 1080. I just watched a vid on it. I posted it in 1 of these threads, but stock for stock or oc vs oc, in games the 1600 was beating the 1500 by 9=11 fps over and over. Obviously it destroyed it in Cinebench, blender etc...

nice to see that games are getting optimized for more cores

I'll be using a 1400 and 8gb ram. Don't think it'll affect fps too much I can't afford a better CPU. I'll try to budget on everything I can. The thing is that vega is on the horizon who knows maybe it'll deliver 1080 like performance at 1070 cost. I'll buying everything in June so we'll see if vega is out by then.

I guess it's ok to get 1400 since you're on 1080p wide and you can upgrade the processor since AM4 will last for many years.

$50 more. If you can stretch, this is probably the best option.

The 1070 is the ZOTAC 3X version, quite nice card.

6700k on locked board? Well, it's cheaper than the 6700 by $3, and that $3 goes into a better cooler (not by much)

Prices will change between now and July, and maybe then retailers will have stabilised their Ryzen prices.

idk

Few things; 6700k is overkill and I don't like Intel as a company. I can't stretch that much since my parents won't let me buy windows off of kinguin or Reddit. I also need a mouse (has to be wireless since I have a wireless keyboard thinking g602) so that's like 160 more since windows is 90, mouse is 40, and battlefront is 30

Alright. Wait for retailers to get their shit together with Ryzen price-wise and get a 1600.

Forza Horizon 3 generally runs poorer on Nvidia hardware...

My Fury provided a better experience than my 980 Ti, same as my friend who's 480 played better than his 1070.

By June they will. Also how do u feel about vega? Some benchmarks were leaked and it outperforms the 1080. Knowing amd they'll get it to a cheaper price than the 108@ I'm hoping 1070 level.

If it better than 1080, they will price it at least on par with 1080.

I use a 470 8GB at 2560x1080 75Hz w/ Freesync and it handles it easy as. Always above 45-50fps even at ultra settings (don't mind trading 10fps for a prettier game), which is smooth as hell thanks to the Freesync. A 580 should do fine, especially with Freesync, but the 1070 will obviously be much faster.

Tru. I can afford a 1070 but it's pushing it and I'm sacrificing airflow (included case fans are shit) and freesync. I'm also not gonna be able to get a lot of games only one.

Yeah, I think the 1070 would give you a little more, but you'll likely not notice it since it'll be over your 60Hz refresh anyway, and Freesync really is awesome.

thats as much as I can go, $1250.

Sorry that rig have no future imo. Might be better to grab a low end Kabylake i5 system. :P

Get a B350 mainboard so you can overclock your processor. Dual channel memory help gaming performance and faster RAM help Ryzen performance.

I suggest downgrade to 580 and get a more balanced build plus you can leverage Freesync as well.

I'm not overclocking don't wanna void warranty so I don't need b350. I had the single slow dimm since I was budgeting. I wanna get a 1x8 so I can upgrade to 32 if I need too. I'll probably just get a 2400 or 2666 dimm and I'll go 580

It's not going to void your warranty and the processor love faster clock speed for gaming, at least get 1500x for that higher single core performance and that extra L3 cache. Going with A320 board will limit your upgrade path imo.

Ryzen is finicky about fast RAM, the compatibility with fast RAM is still shoddy right now. If i recall correctly its not optimum to populate all 4 ram slot for Ryzen so it best to get 1x 8GB and add another 1x 8GB later for optimum speed.

OP, do yourself a favor and ditch that 1070. You are sacrificing way too much for it.

This is a much more balanced build.
