Another "Rift vs Vive" Post (VR Party Games???)

The Rift controllers are pretty universally regarded as better, and Valve is working on new controllers in response. They feel kinda like a more premium Xbox One controller except for VR. It's pretty freaking awesome. Not sure why anyone would dislike them. The Vive controllers do have most of the same functionality though, so it doesn't make a big difference in most content.

 

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is probably THE party game in VR right now, and is available for both headsets. There are some head-to-head multiplayer games. Maybe the Rift has a slight advantage if you end up playing The Unspoken or Dead & Buried against each other, but for the most part it shouldn't be a decisive difference.

 

The screens are pretty comparable overall, they just have slightly different tradeoffs. The Vive has a little more FOV, but the Rift has a slightly sharper image (especially nice for text). The Rift has a larger sweet spot but worse god rays. And so on.

 

The Rift is more comfortable, and the built-in audio is great for convenience - no hassle with a separate headset. But it's not a good fit for a backpack PC, since the PC needs to have USB cables running to the sensors. It works a lot better with a Vive, since its base stations are plugged into wall sockets instead.

Hello People!

 

My family and I have some interest in getting a VR headset. We are curious about the party games available on either platform. There is discussions all over this forum and other forums about pros vs cons but I have a few specific things I'm interested in, please provide input based on my questions below:

 

**1-) What games are fun Party Games for each platform? Could you recommend one platform over the other based on Party Games (Something we want to be able to hang out together). Are there any Multiplayer games for people with 2 headsets that you could play with each other, are these online based or could you do a LAN gaming session? This is the main thing I am interested about. If you haven't tried both platforms but have some favorite games, then throw out some titles and reasons why you like it.

 

2-) In terms of quality how do the Rift VS Vive compare on these three things. 

-Quality of screen/Immersion (FOV?)

-Controllers, which ones have people liked more? I've heard GREAT things about the Rift controllers.

-Comfort of headset, I have a small form factor PC that I am going to turn into a Backpack PC so the Tether will NOT be an issue, but how about the rest of the feel.

They are basically identical in terms of specs. The Vive is a tad heavier and doesn't have built in headphones which IMO is good as the included Rift ones aren't very good. The Vive also has a bit better tracking and doesn't need extra tracking stands to do full room. I prefer the Rift controllers but the Vive ones are still great. Honestly they are very similar but I prefer Steam over Facebook

The games on both platforms are great, there is a few exclusives on both sides but nothing decisive... after trying both i prefer the vive but at the present price difference i don't know if the vive is worth it...

Vive gets my vote.

 

Raw Data is a fun game if you feel like being goofballs online. 

Hotdogs, horseshoes, & hand grenades is a fun game, but won't be getting multiplayer.

There are plenty of others to try on Steam.

The Rift controllers are pretty universally regarded as better, and Valve is working on new controllers in response. They feel kinda like a more premium Xbox One controller except for VR. It's pretty freaking awesome. Not sure why anyone would dislike them. The Vive controllers do have most of the same functionality though, so it doesn't make a big difference in most content.

 

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is probably THE party game in VR right now, and is available for both headsets. There are some head-to-head multiplayer games. Maybe the Rift has a slight advantage if you end up playing The Unspoken or Dead & Buried against each other, but for the most part it shouldn't be a decisive difference.

 

The screens are pretty comparable overall, they just have slightly different tradeoffs. The Vive has a little more FOV, but the Rift has a slightly sharper image (especially nice for text). The Rift has a larger sweet spot but worse god rays. And so on.

 

The Rift is more comfortable, and the built-in audio is great for convenience - no hassle with a separate headset. But it's not a good fit for a backpack PC, since the PC needs to have USB cables running to the sensors. It works a lot better with a Vive, since its base stations are plugged into wall sockets instead.
