Is this a good server pc?

Creed1

My friend and I are looking at a cheap gaming server. We are going to get a small server rack mount. He was browsing Ebay and we came across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Poweredge-R410-2-X-QUAD-CORE-2-40GHZ-E5620-24GB-RAM-1-x-146GB-15K-SERVR-QTY-/132067215462?hash=item1ebfd1c866:g:V4UAAOSwLEtYkOcJ#rwid

Specs:

  • Dell Poweredge R410
  • 2 x Quad Core 2.40GHz E5620 Processors
  • 24Gb Memory Installed ( 6 x 4GB )
  • 1 X 146GB 15K 3.5IN SAS Hard Drive Installed
  • ONBOARD SAS 6/IR Raid Controller ( dell part# HM030)
  • Dell iDRAC6 DRAC 6i Remote Access Board K869T Installed
  • 480w Power Suppy
  • Front Bezal Included

Would this be good as a simple storage server/gaming server?

Thanks

EDIT: I would be installing Ubuntu Server on it

Good server and looks like a good deal.

Things to note.

2tb drive limite with a perc 6i

only 8 dimms on that systems instead the max of 18 that those cpu's can handle

For a game server this will work well

seems like a really good deal tbh, will be a solid game server. i would get new storage for it but other then that its a good deal

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Not bad but I'd advise against buying a 1U server (or infact any server for a server rack) unless you don't mind being deafen...

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Be aware that SAS drives are expensive and 15k RMP HDDs are LOUD and the thing comes with only a single 146GB drive.

I mean it's hard to argue with 8 cores and 24GB of RAM for $100, but what do you mean by 'gaming server'? It doesn't look like that chassis can take a GPU or any PCIe card for that matter.

Oh, well, then yeah, I guess.

But as for a storage server, do check how SAS drive prices compare with SATA drive prices for the capacity you'll want.

I literally just purchased this exact same listing. The shipping with surplusa2z is 2 day and the server was in perfect condition. Only thing is they ship the servers with the brackets unscrewed, and the screws are those hex ones with the pin in the middle. That's good though, because shipping a server with the brackets on puts a ton of stress on them.
