Bad 6800k OC?

I've been messing with OCing my system for the past few hours and I have hit a wall. I'm stable at 4.2 ghz as low as 1.25v, but the second I crank it up to 4.3ghz, I cant get it stable even at 1.4v. Is 4.2ghz a bad OC on air for a 6800k?

Broadwell is not well known for overclocking, some chips barely go past 4.1Ghz.

Interesting. I was just a tad bit disappointed because on load at 4.2 I barely go over 60c. I feel like I have a ton of headroom for pushing the CPU even further.

That's the reason Broadwell didn't sell AT ALL. People were still buying Devils Canyon after Broadwell launch. Broadwell tends to max out at 4.2 - 4.4. Devils Canyon goes up to 4.8 and some even go up to 5.0

Interesting. A few folks told me that on the thread where I was asking for build advice. No matter though. Now I could just plummet my fan speeds.

i'm still within my return period to get a new CPU. Dont know if I want to go through the headache of removing the damned noctua cooler with my build to get 200 mhz more.

So another question for everyone on this thread @FTL@shadowbyte@Enderman@Suika

What is the avg for the 6800k since the 6850k and 5930k are out of my budget for the immediate future? Any review sites I look at seem to all struggle to hit 4.4ghz at 1.4v (which just may well be a downside of the chip as mentioned by FTL) and 4.3ghz 1.35 - 1.4 seems doable, but I lost that bit of luck >.<.

Don't even look at those chips unless you need a lot of PCIe lanes, the only other chip worth taking a look at is the 5820k. I have one because I got it on sale.

I dont need the lot of pcie lanes. Only thing using lanes is my 960evo and my 980ti and I doubt i'll be running a second GPU.

It's about average, I think. My 4.3 GHz OC is stable at 1.375, but nothing lower. 4.4, and I hit the same voltage wall.
