Why not get W10 Education Edition?

I just now found out that Windows Education Edition is a thing, and the keys are way cheaper than normal Windows. I expected it to be very cut-down, but after some searching, apparently it doesn't have Cortana (which I find a good thing) and has WAY MORE other features than other versions! Why would anyone ever buy normal W10? This must be too good to be true. What am I missing?

Most education editions require you to provide a valid student ID card for whatever institution you're part of. Apart from that there is no reason not to get a student edition....Although it is windows 10, and I'm forever having to fix problems with people who were unfortunate enough to have windows 10 preinstalled.

Well, apparently my uni doesn't have the Windows education partnership so I'm stuck having to use Take Ownership to disable cortana :/

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Here's the compare list if you'd like to see.

http://wincom.blob.core.windows.net/documents/Win10CompareTable_FY17.pdf

EDIT: Just for the record, I think the education edition is really made for colleges, not necessarily for students. Many of the extra "features" are things like "managed updates" and things to allow students to logon over the net, etc. So basically IT stuff, not really features a user would use.

Yeah I'm in high school so I could probably do it. I wonder if I can get multiple Education Edition keys with the same ID though...

Yeah that's what inspired this post in the first place. Education Edition has every check EXCEPT Cortana! What's not to love?

its enterprise but without ltsb

Why does it exist?

US GOV is probably the main reason

Microsoft gives big discounts to schools, the gov wants the cheapest price it is sold, so they make a version just for schools, so the gov can get the education price

Well unactivated Windows doesn't let me set a background image, more importantly it doesn't let me make the task bar disappear when I don't mouse over it.

Actually it has much more than pro. You get extra goodies in group policy, and windows 2 go and extra security features.

I've seen computers run unactivated windows just fine since the inception of Windows 10, and up to now.

Seriously, that has to be my favourite thing about Windows now. You don't have to look at the taskbar all the time.

Go through the computer lab at school and snap a photo of all the license stickers on the computers. Windows for you AND your friends!

I used to try to do that when I was younger before I realized that windows keys are registered to the motherboard and would never work on another computer.

Fun fact, you can actually call MS support and swap it to a new motherboard extremely easily (as long as the old one is no longer in use with the same key).

For me, it's like running your brower fullscreen, but you get to move the window around. And since I disabled all the animations, using the task bar is just as quick because it takes no time to pop up again when you move the mouse to the monitor edge.

I've heard this doesn't work on OEM keys.
