Looks like a lot, but it is mainly the big four at the top. We have a similar situation with ISPs, where it looks like there's a bunch, but really it's only a couple unless you're in very specific areas. 

 

EDIT: Also, the MVNO providers basically piggyback on other wireless networks, they don't own the network themselves.

AFAIK, if a phone is sold in the UK, it has to support all frequencies (I think).

 

If you import phones, you have to check if it's going to work with certain bands. For example, the Xiaomi Mi Mix isn't available here and doesn't support the 800MHz band, so certain network providers can't use 4G with it. 

 

EDIT: In the US, there's Sprint variants, right? We don't have that in the UK, there's typically just a single variant that will work across all carriers.

All the bands are supported on the next phone I'm gonna buy....

It supports Bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20
