PS3 video output broken ?

So I bought this game, persona 5 and I put it in my PS3. Before playing it, it had to update and then when updating my PS3 would make these weird clicking noises. After updating, I played the game for a while and then my display would turn black for a while then turn back on. I thought I had a faulty HDMI to DVI cable at first but then I connected my PS3 to other displays/TVs in my house and it would turn on, but it wouldn't display any video, but I could still hear the sounds when navigating the XMB. I tried pressing the power button for 5+ seconds to reset it and everything but nothing worked, please help. If it helps mine is the 2009 PS3 slim.

Try it with AV leads and see if it works that way. Could be the HDMI port is fubar.

It could also be the video settings need resetting.  I had that issue sometimes with my two PS3s especially with my Slim.

  1. Turn off the PS3.
  2. Press and hold the I/0 button until it beeps twice.
  3. This will reset the PS3 to default screen settings.

Or, worse case, the GPU solder joints are detaching.  Also what kol stated, the PS3s are know for their HMDI port going bad.
