What cables will I need to setup the HTC Vive in a different room? Please note the room is 50+ FT away and I do not have another outlet in my wall to set up a ethernet connection.

Probably some really long USB and HDMI cables to connect from the Vive breakout box to your PC

But how many USB cables and how many HDMI cables?  Also would I connect the HDMI cable to my GPU or MOBO?

Definetely GPU

Look up the required ports for a Vive. Get long versions of those cables. [I think its 2 USB and 1 or 2 HDMI, not sure]

Could you link me a amazon link to some GOOD cables that would minimize lag?

This is what I would use luckely my computer is in the same room as my Vive :D

By the way you would need to use ethernet instead of using USB because USB repeters are annoying and will mess with the experience and add a lot of lag.

HAH!  I actually was working up something similar (or exactly the same) as that!

But does the IOGEAR USB Hub use a power outlet?

Nope, you definitly need a active HDMI for this.

What is the difference between active and passive and why does it matter for the vive?

"First, once you go over about 20', HDMI cables aren't rated to push through the amount of bandwidth we need to get display information from our computer to the headset, which is a lot even though the displays themselves are small (they have lots of pixels). Certain companies saw this as a problem for people in various media professions and created special in-line (in-cable) chips that would help extend this distance to 30', 50', or more. These are called "active HDMI" cables and they cost more, but run further. So those will help us with HDMI."

This is an explanation from another fellow on the Vive reddit that I like exaplaining it well.

just remember that there is distance restrictions on USB. I think its like what? 14 feet?

Exactly what this man says! That's why usb extensions are not ideal need way to many repeaters if you are going 50ft and the lag would be immense.

So that means it would be possible to use this cable(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016KOQ3UU/ref=twister_B01BOH3414?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) and still get a great Vive experience!

Yup, as long as it's active HDMI (which that one is) you are good.

Yup that will do. Man 50ft you better have a remote desktop on your phone or a wireless keyboard/mouse so you don't run back and forth all day lol :D
