2003 Powermac G5 MBO + CPU upgrade?

Hey All!

For a while I have been planning to take my early model 2003 Powermac G5 sporting a 1.6Ghz IBM G5 single core CPU and upgrading to the late 2005 Dual 2.7Ghz dual core IBM CPUs.  And whilst I'm at it, upping my system to 16GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM, and an Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX 512mb GPU.  I know my current G5 Motherboard won't support all of this and so obviously I need to get one that supports the Dual 2.7Ghz IBM Dual core CPUs.

Will this motherboard support this conversion:  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Apple-Power-Mac-G5-Dual-Processor-630-6395-Main-Logic-Board-NEW-/302050067083?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

Powermac G5's were obsolete when apple went to x86. A 1st generation Mac Mini will beat the best power mac g5 CPU wise and uses a hell of a lot less power and generates a lot less heat.

I wasn't asking about which mac is better than the G5, I was asking for advice on upgrading my G5, sorry to sound like an ass, but I didn't ask the community to simply get a response telling me that something else is better than what I already have when I wanted to know how to improve what I already own

The newer g5s have a different case so you can't just change the board.

Hey its the guy from youtube!  Didn't know that, is there a way to change the layout to accommodate for the other motherboard?

Idk about the mono mounts, but the io ports are way different.

I am saying dont unless you really need a fast PowerPC computer.

If you want to use it since they look nice, and you like OS X, the early Mac Pros look very similar, preform quite well even for today's standards and you can buy them cheaply used.

true, maybe I'll have to find a new case and transfer the other parts over

In Australia, even early low spec G5s go for ludicrous prices, up to $500 for one half covered in piss, not joking, I got mine at a steal for $130 (including shipping) from the UK compared to the same model here for $300 min.  So Mac Pros in complete working order go for $700+.  Not really willing to go that far, thus why upgrading MBO, CPU, RAM and GPU is cheaper and seemed more viable

I am from Australia, I have looked at the Melbourne Gumtree and the G5's sell for $50 to $150 depending on the model.

Looking at eBay now, there is a lot of Mac Pros that have no bids on them and are at $200

Looking at the completed listings, mac pros sell for just over $100 depending on the model.
