Dumb SSD Question

HungryHamster
Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

You can install Windows on it to use it as a boot drive and store programs on it at the same time, yes. It's just a drive storing data, and you can put whatever you want on it. The OS doesn't lock you out of it if you're running Windows, Linux, etc.

Hey everyone,

My new PC has a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD and a Seagate Barricuda 2TB HD.

I mainly got the SSD to store programs/games on since it is much faster, but I also hear people talking about using it as a "boot drive" to make their computer start up/close down faster.

I know this is a very basic question, but are these two functions mutually exclusive? In other words, can I use the SSD as a "boot drive" AND to store my games and other programs? Or do I have to get another small SSD to run just as a "boot drive."

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Many of us (by my understanding) use an SSD to OS/programs and HDD for storage.

Yes, but functionally, you can use one drive to store everything.
