GTX 970 vs RX 470?

What do you guys think?

The 970 beats the 470 in most current games, but the 470 is dx12 enabled, meaning better for the future and dosent have the 3.5gb vram issue that the 970 has.

 

Which one should i go for?

All recommendations are appreciated!

In both cases, neither of them will get you ultra 60 fps at 1080p in EVERY game. Since you'll need to turn down the graphics a bit to get a buttery smooth experience, I'd get the 470 honestly. But I don't really see the point of the 470 since the 480 is so close in price and a better performer. Why not the RX 480 ?

I vote for a 4GB card or higher. (970 may be faster if you do not use past 3.5GB but after that I am not so sure...)

IMO i'd get the 470 because it's very close the the 480 in performance , and knowing nvidia , i wouldn't be surprised if they stop supporting Maxwell in the coming months.

they pretty much tie in some games, but in others the rx 470 wrecks the 970

pretty sure the 970 is also DX12 "enabled" i think is says so on the box of mine

Could be but AMD has different possible feature set for DX12.. Obviously the game also has to implement this then to make full potential use of it, and thats where always the big if comes. Same as with dual GPU etc. All nice in theory, but it's all wait and see until it's real and depends on how well it's implemented.

Easily the RX 470. It's cheaper, it performs almost the same in DX11, is better in a lot of DX12 games, and it'll get continuing high priority driver support while the Maxwell gpus are second class citizens to Nvidia now with Pascal out.
