PC Won't turn on

Guys, I'm troubleshooting a friend's PC and it's not turning on.  He's rather bummed because I just helped him build this about a month ago.  I've checked the PSU with a PSU tester and got correct voltage out of it.  Unplugged everything from the board but the ATX and CPU power and nothing.  I think the motherboard died.  It's a Gigabyte G1 Sniper B7.  Any other suggestions?

thats turning it on... it wont do that.

Sorry man, same thing happened to me, if it wont turn on but the psu is allright that means the MB is fried.

yea, the pin thing wont work if the case power wont work.

the case power button might be broken and its one of the easiest things to test

That was one of the first things I did.  I've been building computers for over 8 years, I know how to short the power switch pins.

also did you check the power supply to make sure its at 110V not 220v setting sorry im just going through everything before declaring that you need a new motherboard

Most PSUs these days auto detect the input voltage so flipping a switch is no longer necessary on these models.  It's an EVGA supernova btw.

can you ask your friend what has changed since it was last working

if you cant fix it and the motherboard is within warranty RMA it also check if the wall socket is working

Already did.  According to him, nothing.  He was watching Netflix the other day, turned the machine off and left to go do something else, came back and the machine wouldn't power on.

I already recommended he RMA it, which sucks because he'll probably have to wait till Tuesday to get a reply because Memorial Day.  I figured I'd throw it out here and see if anyone can think of something I might have missed in the meantime.

Did you already try clearing the CMOS?

 

{edit} specs might help too... and also when you say it's not powering on, I guess you mean that nothing happens at all when you press the power button?  some people have a habit of saying pc won't power on when they mean it won't get to windows, so just asking.

Clearing the CMOS would only possibly help if the system wasn't passing post.  It's not even attempting to power on.

OK, I was just asking... and as I already said, didn't know if you meant wasn't powering at all, or just not getting past POST into OS. You don't need to tell me what clearing CMOS will/won't do, I';m the one trying to help you.. anyway

You didn't say that in your earlier post. Sorry if I seem quick to pounce. I work in corporate IT as a network admin and had a pretty stressful week with stuff.

No worries, I had edited my post after I posted it, so could be you were typing when my edit went through... was just trying to be clear as there seem to be a lot of people not making it clear what they mean by "pc not powering on".

 

I know you tested the PSu itself, but did you check the connectors were in tight for the 24 pin and 4/8 pin CPU power?  Also, I don't know what your friend's competency level is and whether he built the PC himself?  I would check for a short behind the motherboard also before declaring a dead mobo for sure. I have even completely stripped a PC down before because a guy said "he couldn't power it on anymore" and found a loose screw had wedged itself behinf the motherboard and caused a short, luckily he didn't fry anything and I got it working again... another time I had a guy with the same problem and he hadn't put the 20+4 pin power in correctly, he put the 4 pin on top and it came loose

 

Anyway, wish you good luck... if I think of any more possibilties for something to check I'll post back.
