I doubt thats the ip, its should be

192.168.c.d

or

10.b.c.d

b.c.d are variables

You probably found the external ip, which you should remove

True, In which case I's assuming he has everything connected since he set it up remotely

Do you have the right permissions set up? can you access it from the network 'folder'?

Or is this just not possible to do?

you need to port forward the ports that the server uses for shares.

The ports must point to the internal ip of the server, then you can access from the wan.

If it were me, I would download Filezilla FTP server, there are plenty of videos on youtube how to set it up. Then if you go into your router most likely 192.168.1.1, and set up a port forwarding rule for port 21 and point that towards your computers internal ip ie 192.168.1.2. To access this remotely you will need to find your external IP, you can do this by searching "What is my IP in google" type in ftp://12.34.56.78 into map a network drive on windows explorer. Yype in user and password and you should be good. PM me if you need further help.
