MSI vs Asus for X99 motherboard

Aren't the audio chip exactly the same?

yeah everything is the same, but take a close look. the old version it's audio boost 3 RPO not PRO.

just for laughing :P

Lol well spotted I didn't see that lol. if that red framing thing comes off I think it would be pretty easy to mod and maybe spray black and then on the godlike part put carbon wrap then it would still have some red but not as much my build is going to be red and black so not a huge problem having some red on it.

Custom PC:

Intel Core i7 5960X GTX1080 Strix | 64gb 2400mhz DDR4 Corsair Vengeance Ram | Samsung S951 256gb M.2 | 4TB WD Blue SSHD | EVGA Supernova G2 1300watt PSU | Acer XB270HU | Corsair K95 RGB | Corsair M65 RGB |

i'm not totally sure but i think that you can remove the whole armor and with some black paint it's all done. yup you can, the only thing that may be annoying it the ACK wireless adapter.

I got my refund today from amazon for my Xpower board as MSI confirmed it as a faulty chip that cause the bios to not work so now i'm even more tempted to order the godlike gaming board before the carbon one comes out lol

there is no difference between the carbon and the old red one. it's just colors, and maybe more armor but it's not worth it, get the old one and you should be just fine, i'm sure you will like it

Looks like the MSI X99 Godlike has it's own version of the "oc" socket.

Do note that Asus do have some pretty beefy boards but I like MSI for high boards.  I use Asus for their lower end ones.

Is that the Xpower that has the OC socket? I had that board never knew it had an OC socket. Unfortunately I had it twice and both times the bios went faulty but they re-released it with usb 3.1.

Yep, the Xpower has a OC socket, and so does the X99 GodLike. The first pic is the X99 GodLike. USB 3.1 version should still be the same, all they did was changed the usb controller from usb 3 to 3.1 and the sku from "S" to "A".

Might be why my 5960x was able to do 4.8Ghz at such low voltage then lol How many contact points do the LGA  2011-3 cpu's have then cause these motherboards have 2036 pins

Something seems odd why these 2011-3 chips have more than 2011 contact points though and why a lot of the new boards coming have the extra pins it's almost like broadwell-e is gonna need these pins

lol, what do you mean helpful pins?

helpful for what? going sub-zero? yes they are, otherwise not really

btw everyone has the pins nowadays especially on the overclocking boards

get the one that looks good and is cheaper

I love the matte Black of MSI X99 SLI PLUS

if you want to go crazy overclocks on LN2 get MSI XPOWER or Gigabyte SOC Force

I got the Godlike because it matches the build i'm doing and has a great onboard audio solution I don't plan to try overclock my 5960X any further than the 4.8 I know it can do already. I was gonna get the gaming 9 but the price difference wasn't massive

yeah I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with it though because the cpu socket cover popped off in transit. I inspected the socket and it looked ok,

Yeah it's just a pain that I had to drill the rivets out of the 780t to get the front 360mm rad in they really should have made the case a few mm taller to allow rads to fit
