Dead drive?

Hyydrah

This laptop won't boot. I tried connecting the drive to another computer as a secondary drive in an attempt to recover the data, and after very long boot and loading segments, this error pops up:

"The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error hard drive."

I'm guessing that the drive's dead, is it time to pick up another? And if so, could you recommend any drives? I'm thinking that an SSD would be more suitable, something in the price range of the Samsung 840 120GB drive (which seems like a good candidate). Anything around ~120GB will suffice.

The performance is only ok though unless they have had a overhaul on the firmware.

It'll feel just as fast as any other higher tiered ssd.

True, but why settle for slower. It was fine in somethings, but it others it was towards the bottom of the charts. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6733/kingston-ssdnow-v300-review/5

It's on average smack dab above or below the Samsung 840.

write speeds are about 90mb/s slower than the 840 and is slower in average workloads in just about everything.
