Why doesn't my Win7 Product key work?

NanneyGoat

So I bought a Windows 7 product key on G2Play and downloaded a ISO.  When it came time to put the key in, it wouldn't take it.  The only reason I am downloading Windows 7 is to get a genuine copy of 10 for my new desktop.  I don't have a lot of experience installing operating systems so can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong that would be great!

Should've bought one off G2A.com, at least you can add an option (costs a tiny bit more) that acts as a shield, if the key doesn't work, you get all your money back. At most, it sounds like you got a fake key.

The G2A Shield option is bullcrap. I have hd an open service ticket with them for almost 2 weeks now regarding a revoked key for a game and they are refusing to get back to me.

I have only used G2A 3 times now and have been burned only once, so I guess its a small sample size, but I will not be doing business with them anymore.

When in doubt, re-format.

Umm.... It fake!

Get your cheaper keys from https://G2A.com

G2A is grey market at best, and often black market, for their Windows keys. Just as an FYI.

Some may work totally fine. Others will expire after 6 months. Some will never work at all. Even getting the G2A SHIELD protection is a gamble, as often they will simply refuse to support you.

G2a / g2play or similar services get their software cheap as possible at third party sources that could have gotten it with stolen credit card sources, thats why its so cheap and thats why its not legit either, g2play for example offer boost services for games like league of legends or diablo or world of warcraft, not sure about g2a but those kind of services aren't allowed by game devs them self.

I wouldn't trust g2play or g2a or any similar service at all because you are just playing lottery with your money, which is kinda funny they offer that kind of stuff also.

Greetings,

Im with everyone else about buying from shady markets, I'll go one better and say it;s honestly  just as well if you can just buy a key directly from a reputable company and pay the high price  for it, you  essentially pay less money in the long run and know your getting the good key.

Watch out , the Windows 7 Product Key might be for different version of Windows 7 - there exist several versions of it like Ultimate - Home Premium and many others, get the right details of what version that Product key is for. Or if you dont have a clue of it just try multiple version of Windows 7

How did you attempt the Install? What wwas the error message? I installed 10, skipping the COA step (just click "I dont have a code") and let the install complete. After restart go into settings>System>About>System Info>Change product key and then enter the COA. I did this installing W10 on a 10yo nForce 680i sli using a Dell COA from my other computer. Be sure to use the correct flavor Home/Pro.
