Will this audio setup work with an HD TV?

TopWargamer

These next 2 pictures I'll just be showing the main box of the audio setup because I have the speakers wired up already into this box.

It's an old surround sound audio setup that we never used and I decided to put it to use, because why not? But that's the thing, it's old. Oh, and I do have those old audio cables too.

So how would I be able to set this to an HD TV?

You should just be able to get an audio output from your TV into that speaker setup with the cable you have.

Ok, but what about when the input on the TV is on HDMI?

As long as there is still a signal reaching your TV, it can output it again.

EDIT: Assuming it has an AV out.

Does your TV have an Digital Audio Out?

I'm assuming so. Here's the back of my TV, just to make sure.

You should use the optical Output then, if you want to have 5.1 ;)

On the 2nd image, it's the red/white combo to the right of the HDMI cable, right?

Inputs as putting audio into your TV :P

You need an audio output for your sound system.

Brand+ModelNo of TV would help ;)

Here's my take, Optical will give you the full 5.1 digital from the tv instead of mono. If you can get an optical cord that would be your best bet

I am assuming those are audio in for when you hook up the vga cable to get audio to your tv also.

Optical is the way to go. Still used even on the newest of home theatres and tv's so you know the cord won't be useless when you upgrade.

Both the surround sound system and my TV have an optical audio port. An optical cable is like, $5, so I may as well just use that then.

I just checked the manual and the optical audio output is the only option anyway.

So buy such a $5 cable ;)

Oh ok, thanks!

I have a big 46 inch Samsung smart TV and the optical audio out only sends 2.0. .. Just to keep something in mind.. Its not always as it seems. For $5 its not to bad to find out either way, but good luck!

I have my Home Theatre System setup with optical cable to my TV, works fine with 5.1.  All other devices connected to the TV via HDMI also gets the 5.1 audio treatment too.

Its the way to go.
