Posted July 9, 2015 It depends....is it an i5 or a C2Q? If it's a recent i5 (Sandy bridge or later) then an R9 280/280x/290/290x/390/970, if it's a first gen i5 or a C2Q then R9 270. With a i5 2500K you can go up to 970 really, while Core 2 Quad should be like.. 270 or so.. Posted July 9, 2015 A 2500K @ 4.7 surpassed my 4670k @ stock in benchmarks. With my 4670k @4.5 it was maybe 2-300 points faster. Lots of life left in those Sandy Bridge units. Really wish I hadn't sold mine a couple years ago. Newer boards have more support for fast boot and the like, but the actual CPU typically doesn't change the amount of time it takes. Now storage type on the other hand... Loading windows for instance with an SSD took the same time on my QX9650 as it does with my 4670k. But put windows on a regular mechanical hard drive and run it side by side with a system running and SSD and you'll see a tortoise vs a hare situation.
