What I'm hoping is AMD becoming a more viable computing hardware manufacturer competitive to Intel and not the last-resort ghetto brand that everyone seems to the shaming in this thread.

They aren't really getto, more like stuck firmly in the early 2000's-just look at the ipc across their entire range. A Celeron M should not approach the single threaded performance of a CPU with an architecture that is newer by 14 years. (P6 architecture vs Bulldozer)

I don't really expect anything from Zen; my heart can't take it DX

But in all seriousness, I would wish that AMD would really start coming into their own rather than being content to sit in Intel's shadow and play catch-up the whole time. AMD products are powering Oak Ridge's big fancy computer, so why can't they start being able to be competitive in finding their way into our (supposedly big fancy) computers?

you are confusing the platforms.

consumers go give a flying-pooh about speed, gigaflops or high-fancy

resolutions, they want to connect to facebook, transfer their photos

to instagram, stream netflix/youtube with spending the least amount of

cash outlay.

businesses are concerned with return on investment, low cost, longevity

and production output.

enthusiasts want the gigaflops and overclocking jiggahertz, 8k resolution

and will pay release prices, until the next big something in three months

and then they are stuck with NOS inventory that will not sell regardless

of a huge ole rebate.

consumers are the major part of the buying pie, then the businesses and

then enthusiasts. catering to enthusiasts doesn't make them any money.

so why go hell-bent to produce intel comparables to compete on the

enthusiast level, makes no money or sense. they are bleeding money at

the tune of billions per quarter. not many hail-mary plays left in the

playbook to make a competitive stab at intel or nVidia. going from 120-180

days between releases to 270-365 days easily allows competition to slice

a bigger amount of buying money to keep refreshing something bigger,

better, and less cost.

Would you believe that they should just focus on doing their own thing and target a non-enthusiast audience?
