AMD FX 6300 "Safe" Temps?

Guest

I think I'm finally gonna overclock, and I'm wondering what safe temps are. Also, when should I stop OCing with my 500W PSU? Right now with my normal programs open with little to no intensive programs, my Core temp is at about 72F with max at 91.9F according to Open Hardware monitor.

As long as your PSU and motherboard are good quality you should really only need to worry about temps. Run Prime95 to get max load temps. (Also to test the stability of your overclocks.) Your idle temps seem good to me.

My motherboard is pretty good as far as I know, its a gigabyte ud3p, my psu is not so great, a evga 500W 80+ bronze Trying P95 now

PSU doesn't sound bad to me, but I've never used an EVGA PSU though. I have a cx750 and I used to have a Be Quiet 500w (Upgraded because I'm running dual GPUs now.) My 8320 overclocked to 4.8GHz+ on the 500w just fine. (Water cooled.)

UD3P is a great start for overclocking because aside from chip temps, VRMs are also a big issue with AM3+ and the 8+2 UD3P is a great board.

As far as Fahrenheit you'll want to stay under 150

Well, its fan is pretty noisy, probably the noisiest thing in my pc, but it was cheap...

About to start P95, I'm honestly kinda nervous lol, does it record temps on its own or do I have to watch in open hardware? Also should I close everything else?

Stay 62 degrees C or under on the core, and 70 or under on the socket.

Wait, what? I've got a UD3P running with my FX 8320.. What specifically is wrong with the VRMs? (I've pushed the voltage to 1.55+, currently running about 1.45 I think.)

It's fine, just keep HWMonitor open to look at your temps. Don't worry, if the CPU gets too hot (Like 80c) it will shut the PC off automatically.

I would use AIDA64, I hear P95 puts a very unrealistic stressed load on your CPU

What torture test setting do I want? Small FFTs, In-place large ftts, blend or custom? Also how many threads?

Small FFTs will put the most stress on your CPU. I use it to test max temps. For threads set it as the number of cores your CPU has. (Should be automatically set.)

Alright so its been 11 minutes now, max of 89.2, hw monitors max is 96.4 for some reason still, how long do I keep this up?

Is this in C? If so, that's unsafe temps for an FX CPU. You're not supposed to get over 60-65.

No sorry its in F, Stupid america teaching me their stupid measurements. Celcius is about 31.4 right now.

62c is max safe temp recommended by AMD...i assume the chip could reach higher before trottling...probably around 80c the chip start trottling i believe.

31.4c under full load? that can't be unless you cool the chip with liquid nitrogen and run this cpu undervolted.

Stock 6300 config with CM 212 Evo. According to HW monitor, It's been sticking around at about 88.5F. So I don't know. How much longer should I stress test?

that's too low temps, your readings are not right.

Many FX CPU,s have bad temps probes...what voltages and clockspeed are you running at right now?

The only real reason to run P95 for more than a few minutes is to test stability of an overclock.

i think your chip has a bad sensor...or your house is really really really cold...
