What does it mean if a gpu is 1 slot dual slot or triple?

 

It means how thick it is, If it's dual slot it will take up 2 PCIe brackets, not slots, brackets are on your case. :D

Why do you need a triple slot card? all triple slot cards are from the 600 series from nvidia and 7000 series from AMD/ATI  New cards are only dual slots

and if you were asking about the card in the pic its a 680.
