Is the GTX 960 4GB good for Illustrator and Premier ?

Xolin

Can I use GTX 960 4GB with i5 3470, Asus H61M Plus, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD.

My main purpose is Photoshop, illustrator, Adobe Premiere.

Will this computer be good enough? Should I upgrade something? SSD/RAM/GPU?

Thank you.

I would say find a more powerful gpu and maybe upgrade to 16gb of ram instead of 8. Other than that, I think you are good the rest of the way.

Probably more RAM I would say 16GB would be fine for most hobbyist Premiere projects. Your GPU is not supported by Premiere anymore by the looks of it: https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/premiere-pro/system-requirements/2020.html#hardware-acceleration-system-requirements

Adobe is kind of pain like that as they tend to remove GPU support arbitrarily.

Hard to say as at least several integrated graphics chipsets are still supported by Premiere. This is straight from Premiere's website. Once a card is off of that supported list, it's pretty much doing nothing as far as I'm concerned.

You'll still be able to run them. For Photoshop, it's no problem, I've ran it on like a Pentium M for God's sake and it was fine. Same with Illustrator, unless you need absolutely the best colour (though for that you'll want something like a Quadro and a monitor with much higher colour depth). But I'm guessing that's not a requirement for you as that's usually only seen in high value productions. Productions where the company would be providing you with the machine.

For Premiere, your computer can still run it. But you're going to run out of memory really quick so a memory upgrade would be recommended. For the GPU, you won't have hardware acceleration on that end. So you won't be able to do any demanding special effects. For simple cuts, transitions, and effects, having no GPU acceleration is no problem. In terms of encoding, well you're just going to be relying fully on your CPU. The GPU wouldn't be able to help out.

I was working a on Premiere project for class a few semesters ago when covid first hit and well... my CPU was doing everything. My 550Ti was doing bugger all since Adobe removed support for Fermi a while ago.

It should be good, just slow compared to current parts.

What you need the most is a fast SSD.

Depending on the project size, 8gb might be enough.
