3990x 256GB compatibility

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Working on a 3990x build with Asus Rog Strix trx40-E.

Will the system even post if I try getting 8x32gb dimms 3200/3000 mhz configuration.

Mostly will be using corsair Lpx 3000 mhz, or gskill ripjaws 3200mhz. Just want to be sure if underclocking the RAM to 2666 will be compatible or not.

The main question being will it even post or even be compatible with these RAMs in 8x32 configuration

This is the last option we have got, but in my region this haven't been launched yet and quiet impossible to get hands on these dimms.

Not sure if the 3000mhz 32gb dimms with 8x32 configuration will work at base frequency to even post having all the dimms installed.

Need a confirmation on that, a reddit thread says it works with 3200 mhz ripjaws but haven't seen any other source available saying so

4x32 should work at 2666

look at your boards QVL list for what 8x32gb kits it officially supports if any

for most people I'd say just move up to an epyc 7702P on a workstation board that will run 8x32 or larger at 2933 with the right dims

The imc handle's up to theoretically 2tb so you will be able to

Do I expect the imc to be able to handle it at 3200/3000 ehhh that's a stretch you might be able to run it at 2666 if you have the budget you can always go for something that has b die

My favorite case is the mechify c and it is the best case and if you say otherwise you're lying

@TofuHaroto so I can see your post

It’s mostly board+cpu not memory dies

Yea I agree but maybe with a slight soc bump / dram voltage bump getting to atleast 3000 with b die would be easier then let's say hynix memory
